Private label beer

Through history popular well-known breweries have practiced the business of private labeling. It allows a company to offer quality private label house beer from a quality brewer to its customers, with a custom logo. Such companies and businesses are growing in popularity. We can only see an increase in this process of private-label beer. Germany provides plenty of quality manufacturers, one of the largest private label producers is based in Frankfurt, TCB Beverages. Other big companies are on the rise such as the UK based BrewBroker. The US craft beer industry is mainly covered by BevNET’s Brewbound.

Manufacturing

Beer is a type of alcoholic drink, the most widely consumed of all alcoholic beverages like wines, liquors and spirits. Beer manufacturing goes through the process of brewing with the use of cereal grains such as malted barley and sometimes wheat, rice and corn. The process of brewing involves the fermentation of starch sugars in the wort which then produce carbonation and ethanol. In other variations of beer and commercial brewing natural carbonation is replaced with forced carbonation.

Various types of beer and packaging

There are various types of beer, usually due to the various brewing processes around the world, such as: pale ale, stout, mild ale, wheat beers, lagers and pale lagers. The alcohol content of modern beer is usually around 4% to 6% ABV, with many variations from smaller and bigger percentages. Different types of beers have varying nutritional values. Due to its most common ingredients and especially yeast, beer can contain many nutrients and valuable minerals and some vitamins.

Packaging

Most commercial beers available to customers in stores are sold in bottles and cans. Bottled beer is cleared of yeast through filtering, but retains a small amount. The packaging of bottled beer usually includes dark glass bottles for protection from light. The other form of popular packaging is canned beer. Cans protect the beer form sunlight, and their seals are less prone to leaking unlike the bottled versions. Companies and manufacturers offer packaging of beer between the two desired methods of bottled and canned beer for the consumer.

Private labeling companies and production

The production of private label beer is a very popular business that is worth investing into. Private or white label collectively outsells every brand in both East and West Europe. The performance of private brand products by country is as following: UK (52.5%), Spain (42.6%) and Germany (40.1%), and value share is lowest in Italy (18.1%) Greece (16.3%) and the US (14.9%), based on IRI’s analysis. Retailers and manufacturers collaborate to develop trusted ‘private brands’. Companies have a hard task competing against premium national brand beers. Retailers are working on quality products with reduced costs which can result in a win-win situation as a big benefit to both customer and retailer.
